Near Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, there is the most interesting Polish archaeological monument and at the same time one of the most valuable monuments of prehistoric mining in the world.

There is a complex of prehistoric striped flint mines operating in the Neolithic period and at the beginning of the Bronze Age (3900-1600 BCE). Although thousands of years have passed, the underground mines have survived to our times in an almost unchanged condition. This is evidenced by the perfectly preserved landscape of the mining field and the architecture of underground workings. They can be admired while wandering along an underground route almost 500 m long.

Krzemionki is also a place where many rare species of plants and animals under protection occur. In 2019 the reserve was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
