Stefan Żeromski City Park in Starachowice – The Green Heart of the City
Located in the very center of Starachowice, the Stefan Żeromski City Park is a unique green oasis that harmoniously blends a natural, forest-like landscape with modern design. Following an extensive and highly successful revitalization, this area has transformed into one of the region's premier tourist and recreational landmarks, even earning recognition in international architectural competitions (such as an honorable mention at the Design Educates Awards).
History Embedded in Nature
The park spans a picturesque, undulating hillside with a remarkable elevation change of up to 30 meters. Strolling along the newly renovated pathways, visitors can spot traces of the site's historical identity. It once operated as the "Herkules" iron ore mine, and part of the landscape features unique, artificial rock formations made of solidified blast-furnace slag. The region’s rich industrial heritage is commemorated by landmarks such as the statue of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, and the educational "Iron Trail."
