In Opatów located on the Amber Trail, the old times have left many valuable souvenirs. The biggest monument of the town is – remembering the Romanesque period – the collegiate church of St. Martin.
You can admire the Romanesque windows, the so-called biforia and decorations in the form of a frieze. Particularly noteworthy are the tombstones of the Szydłowiecki family located in the left nave of the transept, with an interesting bronze bas-relief, the so-called The Opatowski Lament. This three-nave temple built on the plan of a Latin cross is accessible through the Renaissance Warsaw Gate.
Near the church, there is a market square with a squat town hall from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries and underneath there is a 400-meter-long Underground Tourist Route. On the other side of the Opatówka River, it is worth visiting the Bernardine Monastery with its Baroque church and interesting Rococo sculptures.
