The present church stands on the site of a former Norbertine and Norbertine monastery founded by the knight Dersław in the early Middle Ages.

The original temple burned down in 1592, funded by bp. Jerzy Radziwiłł, a new one - in the Baroque style - was erected on the foundations of the burnt Gothic church. The church and monastery burned down again in 1820. The temple was rebuilt in 1871, making numerous changes.

The former presbytery was changed into a nave, adding a Baroque-Classicist façade from the east. Currently, in the Baroque main altar there is a painting of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, whose author is probably Franciszek Smuglewicz. On the sides there are sculptures of Polish patron saints: bishops Wojciech and Stanisław. In the upper part of the altar, there are sculptures of the Holy Trinity and St. Peter and St. Paul. There are several epitaph plaques on the walls, e.g. late-Renaissance epitaph of Anna Kowalkowska née Korycińska.
