This extremely atmospheric wooden church has been standing for centuries on a small hill in the heart of the town. Although, according to Jan Długosz, the most famous Polish chronicler, the first temple stood here in the 12th century, the present church was built in the 16th century.
Only 220 years after its construction, the condition of the church was assessed as very bad by those times. Thanks to renovations - even in the 18th century and in later years - today you can admire the climatic building from several centuries ago. The church in Chotelek is distinguished by a high, four-pitched roof, which is additionally decorated with a small tin bell (the smallest tower, on which a small church bell is placed).
In the peaceful interior of the temple, be sure to pay attention to the characteristic ceiling covered with paintings (polychromes) on wood. According to some researchers, this ceiling did not originally cover the roof of the church and was re-installed here. In the main altar you will see the popular theme of the crucifixion group (i.e. the image of Christ on the cross surrounded by biblical figures) and on the altar bolt - the image of St. Stanisław Biskupa - the patron saint of the church in Chotelek.
