St. Barbara is the patron of Starachowice. Chapel was built before World War II by the community of local miners.
According to the tablet placed next to the chapel, Saint Barbara was born in Syria at the end of the 3rd century. While studying in Nicomedia, she became a Christian. She refused to give up her father's faith, and was therefore handed over to the authorities, imprisoned and tortured, and finally beheaded in 305.
She is the patroness of good death and hard work, hence the special worship of miners and steel workers. That is why the figure of St. Barbara was placed between the "Hercules" mine and the Blast Furnace Plant.
