Some of the historic buildings of Sandomierz still perform the function for which they were built centuries ago. This is the case of Collegium Gostomianum, where today there is a school, or more precisely - a general secondary school.

Therefore, the facility is not open to tourists. They can look at him from the outside. The building looks impressive - both from the side of the Vistula embankment and from the side of the old town. The building was erected in the 17th century by the Jesuits from the foundation of Hieronim Gostomski (hence the second part of the Latin name). This is explained by the presence in the square in front of the school of a statue of Ignacy Loyola - the founder of the Jesuit Order.

At the beginning, the building consisted of two wings: the eastern wing (from the beginning intended for the school) and the southern wing, which has not been preserved until today, where the professors of the noble college lived. The south wing is not the only element that has not survived to our times. In the place where the row of birches grows, there used to be a church. st. Peter. In the nineteenth century, the temple was consumed by fire and has never been rebuilt.
