In Doły Biskupie, on the Świślina River, there is an industrial complex of the former "Witulin" cardboard factory, the main co-owners of which were Witold Gombrowicz's parents.
The factory was established thanks to Jan Gombrowicz, the father of the famous writer. In 1911, due to the lack of his own capital for construction, Mr. Jan issued approximately 2,000 shares. which resulted in the interest of many shareholders and co-financing of the investment. The interest resulted in ordering specialist machines from reputable plants in countries such as England, France and Germany in the same year. As soon as the machines arrived, the plant was in full swing. The local population was very pleased with the new jobs. The factory operated without any problems until 1968, when it was connected to the electricity grid. This directly influenced the change in the number of employment (increased) as well as the production itself.
The progressing industry made the factory a technical monument. The plant has been closed. In 2001, the local river called Świślina flooded, which almost completely destroyed the cardboard factory buildings. Currently, it is a private property. The construction of a hydroelectric power plant and a hotel are planned in the future.
