What did Halina Krępianka become famous in the history of Sandomierz? What do the characters trapped in the pictures hanging in the "The legendary chamber" have to say? And why is the Sandomierz market sloping? You will find the answer to these and other questions by walking through the almost half-kilometer labyrinth of the Sandomierz Underground Tourist Route.

For centuries, Sandomierz was located on trade routes important for Poland and this part of Europe. The city, surrounded by defensive walls, had a very limited space. Enterprising merchants began digging their warehouses underground in soft loess soil. With time, with the fall of the city's commercial power, the cellars, although they existed in the stories and legends of Sandomierz, fell into oblivion. They were remembered in the 1960s, when the city began to suffer from unexpected failures, and the buildings were increasingly threatened with the threat of literally collapsing into the ground.A spectacular action of documenting and securing merchant cellars was undertaken. Most of them are filled with a mixture of loess, cement or water glass. Some of the cellars, however, were combined into one coherent Underground Tourist Route, which today stimulates the imagination of tourists.

Under the supervision of a guide, you will walk under 8 tenement houses, along a 470-meter long corridor and going down to 12 meters underground. If you join the group, you will learn the story of the brave Halina Krępianka, who, according to legend. she saved the city by descending with the Tatars to the underworld of Sandomierz. You will also learn more about the traders' habits and the history of the Royal City.
