Although Wąchock regained its city rights in 1994 and the mayor exercises power here, the only governor of Wąchock who received a monument is none other than the village head.
All thanks to jokes about Wąchock and its inhabitants, Sołtys and his family, told in the times of the People's Republic of Poland.
“Why did all the fish die in the river in Wąchock?
-Because the mayor washed the socks!
“- Why in Wąchock the village head plows the field over and over again?
"Because he bought himself a horse from the circus."
Today, in the era of memes and TikTok, jokes about the mayor seem very outdated, but they cannot be denied charm.
The author of the monument is a well-known artist from Kielce, Sławomir Micek. The mayor sits on the pedestal. He holds a mobile phone to his ear. With the other hand he holds the cart wheel. This attribute is not accidental - it refers to one of the jokes about the way in which the inhabitants of Wąchock chose the mayor. According to him, during the elections, a cart wheel was released downhill. The village head was the one on whose house the wheel stopped.
The Avenue of Jokes leads to the monument, where you will find boards with jokes about Wąchock and the mayor.
