Intriguing sculptures of saints that greet you in front of the temple in Kunów, the body of the church made of light sandstone and intricately made altars - all this proves that stone was an important element in the history of Kunów.

From the Middle Ages to the 18th century, the village was owned by the bishops of Kraków. From the 16th century, however, Kunów was famous not as a center of church administration, but as an important center of stonemasonry. In the vicinity of the village sandstone blocks were obtained, from which castles, churches and residences were built throughout the country,

No wonder that the temple in Kunów is built of sandstone. It is worth remembering that this is not the first sacral building in this place - the first wooden church, however, has not survived to our times.

The present temple was built in the 17th century. When visiting its interior, pay attention to the main altar, where you will find a painting referring to the composition of the "Crucifixion" by Raphael, and the stone side altars made by local masters.
