What force could have left such a large boulder here? The name itself indicates that the powers of hell had a part in it.
According to folk tales, the devil could not stand the sound of church bells calling the faithful to pray. Angry, he hurled the boulder towards the temple. However, he missed the target, and only a giant boulder remained after his great anger.
Today we know that the fragment of the rock, located on the border of two provinces, was brought here not by the devil, but by the ice sheet. Scientists have established that this huge erratic boulder comes, without a shadow of a doubt, not from Hell, but from south-east Sweden. It is therefore an example of a leading eratica, i.e. an erratic boulder, the origin of which can be clearly determined. The fact that the boulder was destroyed by the enormous force of the ice sheet is evidenced by its smooth surfaces and rounded edges.
