Żeleźnica near Przedbórz owes its fame to one of the most famous accidents in the history of the Piast dynasty.

According to local tradition, King Casimir the Great was supposed to play hunting in the place that today commemorates a high stone obelisk with a royal crown on top. As reported by the medieval chronicler, Janko of Czarnków, on September 8, 1370, the last of the Piasts stayed in Przedbórz and, despite the warnings of his companions, he went hunting for deer in the backwoods of the surrounding forest. The next day, during the hunt, the royal steed overturned and Kazimierz sustained a significant wound to his left leg. Around this event, which could have contributed to a significant deterioration in health and eventually to the death of the last of the Piasts, many legends and stories repeated in chronicles and accounts - by Jan Długosz, Adam Naruszewicz or Bolesław Chlebowski - have arisen.
