Łagów is one of the oldest towns in the country. The first mentions of Łagów appeared in the 11th century.

Jan Długosz states in his chronicles that in 1086 there was the seat of the castellan. There was probably a castle here, but no traces of it have survived to this day. About 2.5 km south-east of Łagów, in the village of Nowy Staw, there is the "Zamczysko hill".

It was on this hill that the former location of Łagów was supposed to be located. In the 15th century, Łagów was a pottery center. Iron and lead ores were also mined here. Today, the city is famous for its "Zbójecka" cave, a late Gothic parish church with a historic bell from 1444 and the buildings of the former hospital and church of St. The spirit.
