More and more tourists, tired of learning about the secrets of the castle, come to the town square in Chęciny, which in the season gives them the opportunity to rest among historic tenement houses, in one of the restaurants or cafes.
The town square together with a network of narrow, atmospheric streets create a historic urban layout that testifies to the rich history of the city. The official name of the square (the square on June 2) commemorates the tragic events of June 2, 1944, when the city was pacified by the Germans. The city's commercial life was taking place in the town square, the rhythm of which was set by fairs - both those organized every Wednesday, and several annual fairs organized on great holidays - Sunday after St. Hedwig, St. Bartholomew and Pentecost.
The most striking object is the building of the town hall. We know that the town hall in Chęciny already existed in the 15th century. The current building has, of course, a much shorter history, as it was built in the 19th century.
The block of the fortress erected on the Castle Hill towers over the square. Therefore, it is difficult to focus on the tenement houses surrounding the square. However, it is worth spending some time on them. Several of them have details that date back to the Middle Ages.
