Oleśnicki - Historic Tenement House in Sandomierz

ul. Rynek 10, 27-600 Sandomierz

This is the first tenement house on the market square that welcomes tourists walking towards the town hall from the Opatowska Gate.

It is also a grateful object for photography, which appears on postcards and magnets so eagerly bought by tourists. Perhaps it is so popular because it is one of the few tenement houses on the market square, which has retained the arcades that add a lot of charm, which makes it clearly visible in front of the row of other tenement houses in the western frontage.

Perhaps tourists also appreciate its graceful and elegant baroque gable decorated with an impressive balustrade with vases. Although the tenement house was thoroughly rebuilt, it stands firmly on its former Gothic foundations.

An interesting event took place in 1570, when Czech brothers, Lutherans and Calvinists met in the walls of this tenement house. The infidels signed here the so-called "Sandomierz consent", the effect of which was, among other things, the development of a common catechism. Details of this event are presented on the exhibition that you can visit in the town hall.
