House of Jordan in Sandomierz

Plac Księcia Józefa Poniatowskiego 3, 27-600 Sandomierz

On the square, where the seat of the City Hall is now located, there used to be the Church of st. Mary Magdalene and the former Dominican monastery, of which only the southern wing has survived.

Today it is in vain to look for a church and other monastery wings, which formed a closed quadrangle here. The temple, erected in the 14th century, was damaged in 1809 by an explosion of ammunition stored inside. The effort to rebuild the church was never undertaken.

In this place, Prince Józef Poniatowski spent the night while visiting the nearby army of General Sokolnicki in 1809. It happened immediately after the capture of Sandomierz by the Army of the Duchy of Warsaw from the Austrians.
