Moniuszko Square is more and more often on the list of must see fans of remarkable architecture, and the photo of the modernist building of the Kielce Cultural Center is a valuable trophy adorning the social media of lovers of modernism.
"Kacek", as the city residents say about him, stands in the place of the now defunct "Leonardo Building", in which, during the partitions, the Provincial Commission had its offices. The design of the so-called "Nowy Teatr" was made by Daniel Olędzki and a team of experts from "Miastoprojekt" in Gdynia. No wonder that the building in Kielce strongly resembles the building of the musical theater in Gdynia.
The construction started in the 1970s and was rather laborious, and was interrupted by political turmoil. The first part of the building was put into use in 1992. In the same year, the facility was renamed the Kielce Cultural Center. The inhabitants of Kielce still had to wait for the happy final of construction - it took place in 2002. Perhaps the current fame enjoyed by the Center is rewarded by such a long waiting time. Many experts describe the KCK building as a pearl of modernist utility architecture.
It is worth coming here especially in the evening, when, before the artistic events, the glazed, openwork foyer illuminates with the glow of lights, contrasting with the massive roof from the outside. Inside you will find interesting bas-reliefs and ... a real jungle. Numerous glazing makes the plants have exceptionally good living conditions here. The real treasure of the Cultural Center is one of the largest stages in Poland, which makes it possible to organize bold musical and theatrical undertakings. The stage successfully hosts spectacular performances of the Kielce Dance Theater and ambitious music events, such as the jazz festival in memory of Miles Davis. This world-renowned jazz musician has a monument in Kielce. You will find him near the KCK building (Kielce Cultural Center).
