On one of the main roads leading through the forests near Wykus, in a quiet and sunny place, you will find a place commemorating partisan fights from the Second World War.
This is the symbolic grave of Ludmiła Bożena Stefanowska (alias "Zjawa"), a shooter and soldier of the 3rd platoon of the 1st Home Army Partisan Group "Ponury", who was stationed in the nearby Wykus clearing for a long time.
On October 28, 1943, during a ruthless manhunt, "Zjawa" together with other soldiers found themselves in the line of the German tirailleur. It took place north of the heroine's resting place. Partisans escaping from the roundup left the body of the killed Ludmiła Stefanowska in a simple forest grave.
In 1945, the bodies of "Zjawa" and other soldiers who died in Wykus were exhumed and deposited at the cemetery in Kielce.
The forest grave is now a memorial site. It is decorated with a modest sandstone slab with an original badge of partisan groups in Świętokrzyskie, a cross and a plaque made in the nearby truck factory in Starachowice. The whole is surrounded by a wooden railing.
