Czarnca is a small village that has been famous for several centuries thanks to Stefan Czarniecki, born here in 1599. Hetman and one of the leading military men of the 17th-century Republic was buried in the church he founded.

According to sources, the first wooden church in Czarnca already existed in the 12th century. The current temple was founded by Stefan Czarniecki in 1640, but he did not live to see its consecration - he died three years earlier in 1665. After the official funeral ceremony in the presence of the king, the hetman's body was transported to the church in Czarnca.

The church itself has a fairly simple body, which consists of a central nave, a chapel and a lower chancel, to which the sacristy adjoins.

At the beginning of the 20th century, on the occasion of the transfer of Czarniecki's mortal remains to a new coffin, a monument dedicated to him was placed in the presbytery wall. In turn, in the interwar period, an impressive sarcophagus was erected in honor of the hetman, to which Czarniecki's ashes were transferred.

Mementos of the hetman are also in the 19th-century chapel. According to tradition, the image of Our Lady of Mercy comes from the Czarniecki field altar. This image of Mary was said to accompany him before each battle.
