In order to get to know and understand the history, legends and stories circulating about the ruins of the Podzamcze Piekoszowski Palace better, it is worth visiting the Bishops' Palace in Kielce or at least looking at the photos of the Kielce residence.
Then it is enough to activate the imagination a bit to see that the palaces in Podzamcze and Kielce are twin buildings.
If the legend is to be believed, Jan Karol Tarło's wounded pride was the main factor in the creation of the palace in Podzamcze. Well, Jakub Zadzik, bishop and founder of the palace in Kielce, refused to accept the invitation to the former residence of the Tarłów in Chełmce. There were harsh words. Tarło was to hear that Zadzik "wouldn't go to just any cottage".
The offended nobleman therefore built a new residence, which was equal to the residence in Kielce. This involved a huge financial effort. Legend has it that the construction cost the equivalent of as many as 30 villages.
And what are the facts? The palace was built in the years 1645-1650. It is worth mentioning that Bishop Zadzik died in 1642, so he could not visit the residence in Podzamcze and assess whether there were any differences between the two buildings. And you should know that there were quite a lot of them.
The bodies of the building are different. The palace in Kielce was built on a plan similar to a square. Look at the ruins in Podzamcze - you will notice that they form a clearly elongated rectangle. Old engravings also show that the Tarłów palace was covered with a different, broken roof (the so-called "Kraków").
Today, the palace in Podzamcze is a ruin awaiting redevelopment.
