Charming wooden churches with a rich history, scattered around villages, towns and cities, are one of the showcases of the Świętokrzyskie region. You will find some interesting objects in the northern part of the voivodship - among others in Ruda Kościelna.
The climatic building dates back to the eighteenth century, when the tenant of the village, Franciszek Korwin Kochanowski, commissioned the construction of a church "made of pine tree (...) to make it easier for the inhabitants of Ruda and Stoki to listen to the holy mass (...)".
The location of the church is interesting. In accordance with the Christian tradition, the presbytery (and therefore the part with the altar) faces east. Meanwhile, the presbytery of the church in Ruda is set to the west.
It is also worth noting that not all building elements are made of wood. The brick vestibule is the result of the expansion of the church at the beginning of the 20th century.
The interior is decorated in the Rococo and late Baroque styles. The scene of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary (to whom the church is dedicated) can be found in the left side altar. The image in the main altar depicts Christ on the cross.
