The characteristic tower of the church in Leszczyny, welcoming you from afar, makes it one of the most recognizable temples in the landscape of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The church was erected in the late Renaissance style at the beginning of the 17th century, when the surrounding areas belonged to the estates of the bishops of Kraków.
The patron saint of the church - Saint Jacek Odrowąż - is associated with a local legend, which says that this outstanding figure from the Middle Ages was supposed to have stayed in Leszczyny in the place where the temple is erected today.
The image of Jacek Odrowąż can be seen on the painting in the main altar. Contemporary paintings presenting miracles that were supposed to happen thanks to him refer to the saint. He is credited with saving the church and the village from destruction under artillery fire during World War I. When the faithful were praying for the temple to be saved, the figure of a Dominican in a white robe appeared to the praying Russian soldiers.
It is worth knowing that Józefa and Wincenty, Stefan Żeromski's parents, are buried in a nearby cemetery, in a grave that has not been preserved to this day. The writer's father leased an estate in the nearby Ciekoty belonging to the parish in Leszczyny. Pay attention to the keepsake of the Żeromski family - a commemorative plaque dedicated to the Żeromski family, which is embedded in the vestibule of the cemetery. Its founder was the writer's daughter, Monika.
Speaking of the cemetery in Leszno - Salomea Skłodowska, the grandmother of the Nobel Prize winner - Maria Skłodowska-Curie, also rests here.
