Warsaw Gate in Opatów

ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki , 27-500 Opatów
50°48'11"N 21°25'18"E (50.8031, 21.4218)

The monument is the only gate preserved to our times from the system of fortifications, which was built in the 16th century by the owner of Opatów - the magnate and chancellor Krzysztof Szydłowiecki.

Szydłowiecki bought Opatów in 1517, shortly after the tragic events of 1502, when the town was almost completely destroyed by the Tatars. Sources say that the gate was originally higher. Today, one storey has survived to our times. The building is crowned with a Renaissance attic. The outer side of the building, just above the loop, is decorated with the coat of arms of the Szydłowiec family. Above - an image of the Mother of God installed here as a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Warsaw in 1920.
