Peter's Field is the site of a raid of German troops on partisan Home Army units located in the forests of Iłża, which took place on October 1 and 2, 1944.
It was the largest battle of the Home Army in the region, known as "The Battle of Piotrowy Pole". Partisans under the command of 2nd Lt. Surrounded by German infantry armed with CKM rifles, armored cars, tanks and remote artillery, "Włodka" undertook a daring fight with the overwhelming enemy forces. The third mass German attack in the afternoon broke the resistance of the partisans. The partisans were forced to retreat, suffering numerous losses. 59 partisans died during the fight and about 40 were taken prisoner. In 2017, a monument commemorating those events was unveiled.
