In the nineteenth century, architects announced a kind of rebellion. They no longer wanted to recreate the patterns created by the masters of the Renaissance, Baroque or Classicism. One of the forms in which the desire to break with the old form was manifested was secession.
It was the Art Nouveau design by Zbigniew Odrzywolski that won the architectural competition for the building of the Mutual Credit Society. The building is located on a corner plot at the intersection of the present Sienkiewicza and Paderewskiego Streets, thanks to which both facades have interesting architectural elements. According to the date on the façade, the construction was completed in 1912.
You can see here a kind of play with architecture - the portal is decorated with bulky, heavily drawn columns and scrolls, which are difficult to associate with any other style in architecture. Plant motifs are an important element for Art Nouveau. On the facade of the Kielce building you will find floral motifs as well as chestnut leaves and fruits.
