he Insurgents' Oak near Szczecno: A Living Monument of History
In the heart of the Daleszyce forest, near the village of Szczecno, lies a remarkable witness to Polish history. This mighty pedunculate oak is not only an impressive specimen of nature but, above all, a guardian of the memory of the January Uprising heroes.
Legend and History
Although the forest is rich in ancient trees, this particular one immediately catches the eye with its monumental silhouette—standing out with its exceptional height and powerful, spreading branches. It is this tree that is tied to a moving story from September 21, 1863.
On that day, a bloody skirmish took place near the village of Ujny between Polish insurgents and Tsarist forces. Eight Polish patriots fell in the battle. According to local lore:
