The Hałda is currently a popular walking place among the inhabitants of Starachowice. No wonder - it is an interesting vantage point with a view of the city, the surrounding forests and the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The heap is a remnant of the mining traditions of Starachowice and a reminder of the mine that operated here until 1962. Iron ore was mined here for the needs of the blast furnace plant. Transport between the plants was provided by a narrow-gauge railway. The mine was closed in 1962.
