On the square. Zdzisław Rachtan "Halny" stands on the bench of this soldier of the Świętokrzyskie Partisan Groupings of the Home Army "Ponury - Nurt", an honorary citizen of Starachowice. It was unveiled in 2016, two years after his death.
The author of the monument is a world-famous sculptor, Professor Karol Badyna, head of the Sculpture Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. The bench was created thanks to the funds provided by the Council for the Protection of Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom, the Starachowice Commune, the Institute of National Remembrance and social contributions.
Zdzisław Rachtan "Halny" was born on March 9, 1924. In 1940, he joined the National Military Organization in Starachowice. He started out as a liaison and courier to become deputy platoon commander. In June 1943, he became a soldier of the Home Army. He served under the command of Lieutenant Eugeniusz Kaszyński "Nurt". For his military merits, he was awarded the Cross of Valor and the Order of Virtuti Militari. After the war, he was active in the veterans' milieu.
