If you want to look at the sights of Szydłowiec from above, a short climb to the so-called Góra Trzech Krzyży will be a good idea.
Looking at the hill, you can easily guess that it is not a mountain formed in a natural way. In fact - it is not a "mountain" but a heap, i.e. an artificial heap of rock waste created during the sandstone exploitation. However, traces of the quarries where sandstone was mined are difficult to see in the field today.
According to local traditions, the crosses placed on the hill were supposed to protect Szydłowiec from the plague. The legend itself (nor the existing documents), however, do not specify when exactly the inhabitants erected the crosses and against which epidemic they were supposed to protect the city and its citizens.
