Chełmce is located on a hill clearly towering over the picturesque meadows and fields of the Strawczyn area, which makes the high tower of the local church one of the most characteristic points of this area.
If you travel on foot or by bike, getting to Chełmiec will require you to be in good shape. However, if you like to learn about the history and monuments of the visited areas, go ahead and make the effort.
The church you will see today in Chełmce comes from the 17th century. The earlier temple (dating back to the 15th century) burned down in 1620.
A characteristic, three-storey tower finished with a decorative cupola, rises on the western side of the rectangular nave. The body of the church is complemented by a lower presbytery and two symmetrically arranged chapels.
In the Baroque interior, pay attention to the painting depicting the crucifixion scene. You will also find the patron saint of the church - St. Mary Magdalene.
It is worth knowing that the palace in Oblęgorek, belonging to Henryk Sienkiewicz, belonged to the Chełmiec parish.
