Although the first temple in Drugnia probably existed already in the 15th century, the current church building was built thanks to the efforts of the 19th-century inhabitants of Drugnia.
Little is known about the earlier history of the churches in Drugnia. On the entrance portal to the side chapel you will see the date 1450 and it is assumed to be the year of construction of the first church.
Other temples in Drugni were plagued by fires - the last one took place on Good Friday in 1876. It is the image of fire that you will see below the image in the main altar.
You will also see the remains of the first medieval temple here - the northern wall with the ogival entrance to the sacristy.
