The beginnings of Sienkiewicza Street date back to the end of the XVII century and its present name has been functioning since 1919.
In recent years, this 1270m long street has gained a completely different image. It has been renovated and illuminated by stylish lamps. Several ancient houses and tenements built mainly in the XIX and beginning of the XX century have been renovated as well. In 2010, at the beginning of Sienkiewicza Street from the side of Kieleckie Centrum Kultury (Cultural Center of Kielce), the monument of the street’s namesake was unveiled. Colloquially called “Sienkiewka”, the street constitutes the commercial, cultural and entertainment center of Kielce. Alongside numerous shops, banks, restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and pubs, the Stefan Żeromski theater is located and also many hotels. Sienkiewicza Street, and particularly Plac Artystów (the Artists Square) is also a spot where every year several cultural events, like Święto Kielc (Kielce’s Fest), the events accompanying Harcerski Festiwal Kultury Młodzieży Szkolnej (International Scouts School Youth Culture Festival), fairs and much more, take place.
