Why is Bodzentyn worth visiting? Located at the foot of Miejska Góra, the town is a perfect starting point for a hiking or cycling trip to the Świętokrzyskie Mountains - not only in the Świętokrzyski National Park.
Hunters of historical traces will find many interesting threads in Bodzentyn that testify to the rich history of the city, and a walk along the streets of Bodzentyn - a town with an interesting urban layout, traditional wooden buildings and valuable monuments - will lead you to the Upper Town Square sooner or later.
Bodzentyn, established on the lands of the nearby village of Wiatrek, was founded in the 14th century by the Bishop of Bodzanta from Kraków (which also explains the name of the city). Soon the city, along with Kielce and Iłża, became an important center of episcopal administration. Soon after its location, a network of streets and a town square were laid out in the city.
Today, low, mostly single-story buildings dominate around the revitalized town square. You will see, among other things, the houses characteristic for Bodzentyn with passageways and semicircular gates.
There is a statue of Saint Florian on a high pedestal. The present image of the saint comes from the 1940s. It replaced the 19th-century sculpture, damaged by strong winds.
